The popular Cessna 182 began as a
                                    tricycle-undercarriage development of the
Cessna 180. It appeared in 1956 as the 182,
and from the 182A of 1957 was known as the
                                    Skylane, changing only slightly at
the 182B, in 1959. With the 182C the swept
tail was introduced, and a third side cabin
window was added. The E added the cut-down
                                    rear fuselage and wrap-around 'omni-vision'
                                    rear window.

                                    Retracting undercarriage came with the
Skylane RG of 1977. Subsequent changes
                                    included elliptical rear side windows
                                    (182G), tubular steel undercarriage (182P),
an enlarged fin fillet (from 1973), and
                                    turbocharger (182R).

Cessna 182's were also built in Argentina,
and designated A182s, and by Reims Aviation,
                                    France, as F182s.
Production ceased in 1985, but resumed in
                                    1996 with the 182S.

                                    21,864 (including 169 R182s by Reims) built
through to 1985. 182S deliveries began April
                                    1997. 332 built by Sept 30 1998.
