                                    Development of
the Cessna 340 began in 1969, with
deliveries commencing in 1971. Whilst it
borrowed the wing design of the Cessna 414
and the undercarriage of the 310, it
                                    introduced an all-new pressurised fuselage
which, at the time of its release, made it
the only pressurised 6-seat twin from a
major manufacturer apart from the Beechcraft
                                    Duke.

The 340 was initially powered by 285 hp (210
                                    kW) TSIO-520-K engines. The 340A of 1976
                                    replaced these with the TSIO-520-NB,
offering two variants with differences in
                                    the fitted avionics.

From 1979, the externally similar but
                                    un-pressurised Cessna 335 became available,
at lower cost, with 300 hp (225 kW)
TSIO-520-EB engines. Only 65 of this version
were built before production ended in 1980.
The last 340 was built in 1984.

                                    1287 340s and 64 335s were built. The 340
was in production between 1971 and 1984, the
                                    335 between 1979 and 1981.
